Now, the products that Apple has created were probably not directly designed or built by Jobs.  Apple is home to some of the brightest people in the world.  However, the true genius of Jobs was his LEADERSHIP.  I am not sure many people will give this great man credit for his leadership.  People will say how innovative he was, how his products have changed the way people live their day to day lives.

As a business owner, I marvel at Steve Jobs.  This is a man who had a vision.  For those who have started, and run a business, know that everything successful business starts with two things: a vision and passion.  Steve Jobs fingerprint on Apple epitomizes these two things.  So why do I dwell on his leadership?

I have studied the “great leaders” of our time.  From the great military leaders, to political figures, to the titans of industry.  I believe that Steve Jobs ranks right up there with anyone.  As I see it, Steve Jobs did not choose to be a leader.  He would have been content sitting behind a computer screen coming up with new ideas.  What truly defines Jobs as a leader is the his unwavering passion for the vision he had for Apple.

His vision & passion were infectious.  The people who Jobs employed looked to him as an inspiration.  The mark of a true leader is the way his/her followers, follow said leader.  Steve Jobs will be missed.

Jobs will be missed for the mark he made on society.  He will be missed for the products and gadgets his vision(s) created.  However, for this small business owner, Jobs will be missed for the leadership this world has now lost.  In times like we have now, any loss of true leadership is something to mourned.

Insurance has been around for centuries.  We all think of insurance as protecting one’s asset(s) from loss due to a certain peril (i.e. fire, wind, theft, etc).

Over the past 3 years or so, many of Americans have watched perhaps their biggest and most valuable asset diminish.  The sad part is that there wasn’t a thing they could do about.  The “free market” has seen the need, and it appears at least one company has decided to try and address that need.

I must confess that I really don’t know a lot about this new insurance, the concept seems to be worth looking into.  Granted, I have not done much due diligence, but currently this product is only available in OH.

WFMY News 2 and Guilford County Schools are partnering in “Pigskin For Pink”, where local students are raising money in their schools to find an earlier detection test for breast cancer.

Friday night (Sept 30th), when NW Guilford takes on High Point Central in football, the players will have an extra piece on their uniforms.  All Viking players will be adourning a Pink Ribbon to show their support for the cause.

We urge everyone to show their support as well by purchasing a “Pink Ribbon”.  The ribbons cost $1.

Just saying that seems hard, as I still remember her as a toddler.  I remember the endless (adorable) fat-rolls that seemingly made no sense!  Seriously, there were rolls that for the life of me I have no idea why they were present.  I remember the period in her life where she wore a barbie dress as a hat (this period lasted at least 3 months).  I remember the first day of preschool, the first day of 1st grade.  I remember all of those events.

While my memory seems to be in good shape, it does tend to play tricks on me.  Why would I say that?  The answer…even to this day when I think of her, I don’t think of the young woman that now shares a home with me.  Instead, I think of that barbie dress hat wearing toddler.  And if that isn’t enough, I have two other kids (Peyton & Cooper) that slap me in the face with a constant dose of reality each every day as well.

Yes, it seems that I have turned into “that guy” that once upon a time I could never imagine being.  However, there is still a big part of me that thinks I am still “cool”.  That part of me that still believes that I can go out and do something athletic (like I did in high school & college) without warming up & stretching and then expect to actually be able to MOVE the next day.  That part of me that still believes that I can eat whatever I want and not get FAT.

You know!  I don’t think I am alone in this distorted reality I have created for myself.  I bet there are plenty of us “30 – somethings” that feel the same way.  I still find it hard to believe that I am actually married and have children.  When did I get OLD (notice I didn’t say “grow up”)?

I saw this video, and it really rang true this situation.  Enjoy!

As we were driving around the Costco parking lot, Cooper saw a GEICO Car.  He said, “man! that would be cool if we had an auto insurance car”.  I quickly replied, “buddy, we don’t like GEICO.  GEICO tries to take toys away from you and your sister.  That’s why daddy has to beat them all the time!”  It took a little more back and forth before both Cooper and Peyton realized that GEICO was not cool.

Flash forward to today.  We are watching college football when a GEICO commercial came on.  This commercial made some statement about going online or visiting a local agency.  Peyton turned to me a said, “you should go down to that office and punch GEICO in the face!”

That really puts things into perspective.

On a side note!  Cooper was talking to Melinda this week and the topic of car insurance & the president came up.  Melinda pointed out to Cooper that I was the President of ALLCHOICE.  To which Cooper extrapolated, “Daddy is the president of car insurance”.

That accounts for all of the children (except for Artemis – our dog who is happy to see anyone) except for ole Puts-A-Tuts (nickname for Peyton).  Typically, Peyton is often caught up in whatever Disney show is on, or in some pretend fantasy she has concocted in her head.  On this day however, after I did my normal greetings, I went to the bedroom to change clothes.  Peyton must have seen me from her bedroom and came running down the hall.  She ran up to me and gave me a big hug.

She then began a 5 minute speech about what she had done at school.  However, at the tail end of the speech she asked me what I had eaten for lunch.  I replied “I didn’t have any lunch today”.   She then began to admonish me about the importance of eating.  She asked why I hadn’t eaten lunch, to which I replied “Mommy didn’t fix me a lunch” (please keep in mind my wife attempts to make my lunch but I always tell her not to worry about it).

Peyton, with a look of sadness, then told me “you have a daughter that cares about you, so I will make you lunch for tomorrow!”

I must say that I am very accustomed to Peyton saying things, then forgetting about them…not this time!  After dinner and baths, she quickly hurried to the kitchen, took the pot of chicken & rice we had for dinner, got a container, and starting scooping the remained of the chicken & rice into it.  While this was precious, the “icing on the cake” was when she picked the lunch box for me to take in to work!

I truly am one lucky guy!
